The Himalayan giants encountered in Nepal can be added to the legendary climbs on the eight highest summits of the world in Nepal. Indeed, the top of the world is on the Tibetan Nepalese border. Moreover lies under its south face and Chomolongma on the northern side known as Sagarmatha. But Mount Everest as westerners have named it barely keeps under its shadow all the other mountains above 8,000 meters. And only its prestige as the highest makes it a dream destination for all climbers in the world.
For your information, there are three seasons for mountaineering in Nepal. The permission season from April to early June was once the only season during which expeditions climbed major peaks. In the 1950s, all expeditions were in the lull before the storm period that occurs between the end of the winter winds and the beginning of the monsoon snow. Cold and high winds drove back the Swiss expedition to Mt Everest in 1952 when they attempted to climb the mountain in the autumn. It was not until 1973 that an expedition successfully climbed Everest in autumn.
The autumn or post-monsoon season of September and October is a period of many successful expeditions. In 1979 the ministry of tourism establish a season for winter mountaineering. It is bitterly cold at high elevations from November to February. But recent advances in equipment technology have allowed several teams to accomplish what was thought before to be impossible a winter ascent of a Himalayan peak. Climbing during the monsoon, from June to August, is not practical from the Nepal side. Although the north face of Everest climbs in August.
Since climbing permission is given to the first person who asks for it. So, it is important to write down the name of the expedition for the specific mountain and the specific time of year. When the Ministry of Tourism gets the completed application form and all the required documents, it puts the company on the list. If you can’t send in all of the above documents at once, you can still book with just the application filled out by the expedition leader. You don’t have to pay anything to put the expedition’s name on the list.
Himalayan Leaders trek P. Ltd. is a government-recognized trekking company in Nepal. As per the mountaineering Expedition Regulations, the company is needed as a local liaison for the expedition to work in Kathmandu, Nepal. This is done before or after getting permission to climb from the Ministry of Tourism.
Firstly, the leader of the expedition team must pay the full amount of the climbing permit fee (Royalty) within TWO MONTHS of the date of permission. If the royalty isn’t paid within two months, this permission could be Revoked.
The climbing permit fee, called “Royalty,” must be paid directly to the Ministry of Tourism or Himalayan Leaders, either by a bank draft or a bank transfer in foreign currency that can be converted.
Secondly, invoices and airway bills or bills of lading (four copies each) have to be submitted to the Ministry of Tourism for an import license and customs clearance for the import of expedition foods and equipment to Nepal. CIF Katmandu’s value is to be clearly mentioned in the invoice.
As Walkie-talkies, Transceiver (Wireless) sets, and other communication equipment are controlled articles in Nepal. Please declare these articles in the customs office (at the entry point) that you wish to bring into Nepal for use during the climbing period. Before collecting such equipment from the customs office we need to take a permission letter from the Ministry of communication. For the clearance of the equipment completed application form and invoice with catalog or specifications (four copies each) should be submitted to the Ministry of Tourism which is later to be sent to other concerned government offices.
At last, you require permission for filming or documentary. So, the Ministry of Communication must be contacted at any time for queries about filming in Nepal. Therefore, please let us know your requirement, we will send all the details and the cost of the filming that you are going to shoot.
