Best season for Eastern region Treks

Spring (March to May)

Spring is the ideal season to enjoy the scenic trails and landscapes of the Eastern region. The weather is favorable, with sunny and bright days. At the beginning of the season, the temperature is slightly colder. But as the season progresses, the snow from the higher altitude begins to melt, and the temperature starts to get warmer. It is also an active time for flora and fauna. Thus, you can witness the entire rhododendron forest and wildflower meadow in full bloom.

The precipitation level is also lower during this time of the year. There can be occasional rain showers but not too heavy rainfall. Trekkers can enjoy hiking on dry trails in comfortable weather. The visibility is also brilliant, and trekkers can witness the gorgeous mountain panoramas without obstruction. Due to the favorable weather, the trails are usually busier.

Autumn (September to November)

The autumn season is a peak trekking season in Nepal, including for Eastern Region trekking. It has one of the best weather and climatic conditions, offering excellent visibility and a comfortable trekking experience. The weather is stable, with clear and bright skies and crisp air. Similarly, the temperature is mild in the lower regions and cool in the higher areas. There is rainfall in early September due to the monsoon effect, but it slowly ceases.

Aside from the great weather, the vibrant autumn foliage colors the landscapes, making it worth the trek to witness the Eastern region’s beauty. The trails are dry and in good condition. Likewise, the great visibility offers magnificent views of the snow-capped mountain vistas. Autumn is also a festive season in Nepal, and two of the country’s biggest festivals, Dashain and Tihar, fall during this time. So, trekkers can enjoy the beautiful scenery and festive atmosphere while trekking on the adventurous route of the Eastern region in Autumn.

Accommodation During Eastern Region Treks

Teahouses are the most common accommodation available on the Eastern region trekking route. Lodges, guesthouses, and homestays are also commonly found along the route. These accommodations usually have small rooms with limited furniture. Most have shared rooms, but a few have single rooms. The toilets are mainly communal and can be squat or Western-style. Likewise, the dining area is communal, with a massive stove in the middle of the room for heating purposes.

Since the trekking trails are in rural and remote areas of Nepal, the facilities are only basic. They offer beds, mattresses, blankets, and pillows. Trekkers will have to pay additional charges for additional services like hot water, hot showers, charging electronic devices, internet, phone calls, etc.

While trekking in the eastern region, trekkers will mostly find a limited food menu compared to city areas. The staple Nepali cuisine, Dal Bhat, is available in every eatery and accommodation along the route. Dal Bhat consists of cooked rice, lentil soup, curries, seasonal vegetables, and pickles. Similarly, the other food menus that you can find during the trek include momo (dumplings), chowmein, thukpa, soup, Tibetan bread, roti, curries, Sherpa stew, salad, pasta, pizza, and other local delicacies.
