Kanchenjunga Base Camp; Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Arun valley, and an eastern approach to Everest lies in Eastern Nepal. And there is endless variety in this part of the country and camping is mandatory. So, most ethnic groups are represented and there are many friendly villages. Kanchenjunga is located far east of Nepal.
The trek to the base camp of the world’s third-highest peak, Kanchenjunga (8,586m.) offers an infinite variety of landscapes, cultures, and as well as panoramic views of the Himalayas. During the trip, you are walking on the low lands of Nepal passing terraced fields, with colorful villages, and green forests. Firstly, the trek enters into a ridgeline of rhododendron. As the trail gains altitude, gorgeous views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu & Kanchenjunga can be seen. And these mountains are one of the world’s five highest mountains that make the trek rewarding. Then, the trial starts with approaching the Yalung glacier & crossing a series of passes, and the views become more magnificent. Then after the trail reaches Pangpema (4800m) which is the base camp for the Kanchenjunga expedition. Nowadays we can start our trip with a flight to Bhadrapur and drive to Taplejung.

Arrival and transfer to the hotel. After some refreshments, we will invite you for a typical Nepali dinner.
After breakfast, a sightseeing visit, in Kathmandu valley including, Kathmandu Darbar square, Swayambhunath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa & Pashupatinath Temple.
Morning fly to Bhadrapur and further drive to Ilam. Ilam is popular for its tea garden here you can get a chance to see greenery and on a clear day, you will see the view of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Khumbhakarana, and the range of Kanchenjunga and the Makalu Himalayas.
Drive to Taplejung via Phidim. In case the Suketar Airport of Taplejung is operational, and if you wish to avoid driving the journey to Taplejung, you can also opt for flying from Biratnagar to Suketar. However, because of the construction works going on at the Suketar Airport and due to its remoteness & weather conditions, flights to Suketar are closed these days. Therefore, we drive up to Taplejung.
After Morning Breakfast, we start our Drive to Tapethok with a downhill drive to Mitlung. Our route will pass through scenic pastures and small villages. On the way, we cross the Hungdewa Khola and the raging Tamur River. Then we drive uphill for some time then descend to the village of Sinwa. Continue to Tawa and then to Tapethok. Then from Tapethok, we trek uphill for some time and then descend to the lush green vegetation below. Continue along the Tamur River. Thus we go uphill and downhill again before crossing the GhunsaKhola. After crossing the suspension bridge, and another half an hour’s walk we arrive at our campsite at Sekathum.
Today is going to be a rather tough day. Cross the river and ascend the steep trail. Then descend again and cross the river again. Another climb from the gorge bottom. Pass by Solima. Descend again to the river level. The trail passes along the gorge, hence be careful while walking. Then following the uphill and downhill tricky trial, we conclude our today’s hectic journey at Amjilosa.
Again, we hike upward the river bank. Pass through the dense forest of mainly bamboo, fir, and rhododendrons. Eventually, reach a small stone house by the river. Then climb up again crossing a few small bridges. You will find that the river drops steeply with many waterfalls and pools. Enjoy the stunning company of the waterfalls. Another short uphill walk takes us to the Tibetan settlement of Gyabla.
We descend again down to the river. The valley slowly opens up before we arrive at Phole. Another couple of hours take us to the famous Sherpa village of Ghunsa with the hydroelectric plant. It’s also the place where more than 20 prominent conservationists met their tragic end in a Helicopter crash.
Today, we trek further north along the river bank. Walk through the highland trees and vegetation. Cross the bridge at RampukKharka. Continue past the waterfall. Cross the tricky and hazardous section of the landslide. After crossing the landslide, we start getting views of Jannu. Thus, exploring the tackling the tricky mountain trail, we finally arrive at Kambachen.
Climb through the rocky fields and boulders on the hillside along the river bank. Arrive at a waterfall. Cross the bridge to Ramtang. Cross some small landslides, before dropping down to the river and finally arriving at Lhonak.
Today, we trek along the edge of the glacier which is a mostly gradual path on grassy trails. Be careful on some rockier sections and areas prone to landslides. Enjoy the views of the Chang Himal on your right. Arrive at PangpemaA, a flat grassy base camp. Climb higher a little to get the magnificent views of the Kangchenjunga North Face.
It’s a steep trek upward from Ghunsato Sele-Le. After getting to the Ghunsa village, climb through the dense forest of moss, rhododendron, and juniper.
Make an uphill trek on a hill. Enjoy the mesmerizing views JannuHimal. It’s a strenuous day today, as we cross several passes. The passes we cross are the Sinion La, the Mirgin La, and the Sinelapche La. Enjoy the meme-rising views of the eastern Himalayas from these passes. Finally, make a steep descent to Tseram.
In the morning we ascend past the snout of the Yalung Glacier. And we descend mostly downhill to Tortoni. Follow the trail along the SimbuaKhola.
Sherpa gaon is a beautiful village. You can enjoy the local culture and ethics.
Birtamod is a lively Terai town in Eastern Nepal. Birtamod is just half an hour’s distance from Bhadrapur Airport from where we will fly to Kathmandu tomorrow. Since there is a number of good accommodations here, we stay overnight at Birtamod.
Early morning half an hour’s drive to Bhadrapur. From Bhadrapur we fly back to Kathmandu. Arriving in Kathmandu, you can rest and relax throughout the day in yours.
