Himalayan leaders always search for a different new route with a single jeep track. And found Kathmandu – Lhasa expedition region through an alternative route. Firstly, it offers amazing cultural palaces of the Dalai Lama in Lhasa. And then after further via the famous Lake of Tibet (Namtso Lake), and Yambajing via Nagenla pass. Similarly, the route goes through Everest base camp with a great panorama of the high range of Himalayas over 7000m.

We are the professional adventure mountain bike tours. And we have well-trained and well-equipped guides with spare parts and their knowledge. We have several fascinating itineraries for Tibet, to learn all about the culture, and do adventurous trekkings or mountain/motorbiking tours! We hope you will inspire by our propositions. And if you have special wishes, please let us know. We specialize in arranging customized tours in Tibet. But now they closed Zhamgmu Border due to an earthquake that occurred in 2015. So, instate of that they recently opened a new border of Nepal and China for the foreigner Named the Gyroing Border. So there is a change on the below itinerary instates of Zhangmu Border we move our itinerary to the Gyroing border.

Lhasa to Everest Mountain Bike Tour Itinerary

Day 01:

Arrival and transfer to hotel

Arrival in Kathmandu our representative will pick you up and transfer to the hotel. After refreshment we will invite for traditional Nepali dinner.

Day 02:

Sightseeing in Kathmandu

After breakfast we will start for sightseeing tours around in Kathmandu valley, the sightseeing program is focused to introduce some highlights and UNESCO World Heritage sites of Kathmandu such as Durbar square, Swoyambhunath, Pashupatinath and Bouddhanath.

Day 03:

Sightseeing visit of Bhaktapur and drive to Namobuddha

After breakfast we drive to Bhaktapur. Bhaktapur is an ancient town in the east corner of the Kathmandu Valley. It is the third largest city in Kathmandu valley and was once the capital of Nepal during the great Malla Kingdom until the second half of the 15th century. Bhaktapur is also listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO for its rich culture, temples, and pottery artwork. And further drive to Namobuddha, Better known by Tibetans as Tag-mo Lu-jin. This means the place where the Buddha offered his body to the hungry mother tigress. It is renowned for Shakyamuni & act of compassion upon encountering a hungry mother tigress he offered her his body so that she could feed her cubs. There are a couple monasteries and one ancient Stupa erected nearby in which one can make offerings, pray, meditation and light butter lamps.

Day 04:

Trek to Panauti explore around and drive to Kathmandu via Patan sightseeing

Today, we join with monk for the morning ritual of monastery. Then after breakfast, trek to the thriving
Newari village of Panauti. Panauti is wedged between two streams, Punyamata and Roshi. The village is shaped like a triangle with a serpent idol standing at each of its three corners to protect from floods. After exploring Panauti we drive to Patan. Patan is the ancient cities listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO in Nepal, known for its beautiful handcrafted and architectural works.

Day 05:

Flight to Lhasa and transfer to hotel

Morning transfer to Kathmandu airport and fly to Lhasa, you will have 1-hour 10minutes, Trans Himalayan Flight to Lhasa, considered one of the most beautiful flights in the world, takes us over Everest (8848m) and Kanchenjunga (8536m). You will meet by our Tibetan guide at Gonggar airport. After immigration formalities, a 1.5-hour drive along 93 km road you will reach Lhasha. It’s advisable to rest and take it easy for the remainder of the
day due to Lhasa’s altitude.

Day 06:

Sightseeing with jeep or cycle (Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Bazaar, Sera monastery) of Lhasa

This morning we will visit the Potala Palace, which dominates the city of Lhasa. A spectacular building, it contains the private quarters of the Dalai Lama as well as numerous grand staterooms and many important chapels. There has been a palace on this site since the 5th or 6th century, but the present palace was constructed in the 17th century. As well as the Jokhang Temple. This temple is possibly the most sacred shrine in Tibet and there is
always a procession of devout Tibetans through the complex. We’ll visit the Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama, Surrounding the Jokhang is the Barkor – a maze of narrow cobbled streets that is the central market of Lhasa.

Day 07:

Sightseeing (Potala Palace, Norbulingkha) of Lhasa

Today will be spent visiting several of Lhasa’s many monasteries in the company of a guide and interpreter. One of these is the Sera Monastery, one of the best-preserved monasteries in Tibet. Within its whitewashed walls and golden roofs, several hundred monks live and study. A visit to the Drepung Monastery this afternoon will complete a truly awe- inspiring day. Founded in the 14th century, this monastery was once the largest in the world with a
population of around 10,000 monks. These days that figure is down to several hundred, but there is still much here of interest as it was left relatively unscathed during the Cultural Revolution.

Lhasa – Tsupu Monastery-Lhasa we drive Tsupu by bus, 65 Km and Bike ride back to Lhasa, it is off road cross valley, river, and visit Famous Tsupu Monastery….ride about 5-6 hours o/n in hotel.

Day 09:

Drive to Namtso Lake

Morning after breakfast drive Lhasa to Damshung, and forwards to Namtso Lake, literally heavenly lake, which is the biggest lake in Tibet and the second biggest salt lake in China as well as the highest lake in the world (4748m). Its one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, playing an important role among Tibetans, excursion around the lake and Tashi Hermitage.

After breakfast, we leave Namtso Lake and Bike into the wild Tibetan countryside passing some old and untouched villages. It can be a feast to the eyes for flower enthusiasts in the summer time as many varieties of exotic Himalayan species can be seen scattered all over the valley among herds of grazing yaks.

Cycle to Yambajing via Nagenla pass

Leaving the village, head towards a wide trail leading across the valley and over another ridge, from where you will be rewarded with views of Nyenchen Tanghlha (7111 m), the holiest mountain in central Tibet. Emerge at Tajung village, and then climb gently up rolling hills where young nomadic boys and girls picnic on the plateaus as they watch their yaks and sheep graze.

Barking and howling of Tibetan Mastiff work as the morning alarm in awakening you from your hard earned sleep. Cycling away from Majiang, the trail progresses towards a valley and to the top of peak the first 5000 meter pass of your trip, you descend to the foot of Simi La at an elevation of 4330m through several interesting Tibetan villages. Basking in the grandeur of surrounding natural exoticism,

Cycle to Shigatse

The trail crisscrosses barley field along the flowing river. Here, you will spot several military and religious sites, in the afternoon to explore the local market and Tashilhunpo Monastery. This monastery is one of the largest functioning monasteries in Tibet and there is much to explore within its high surrounding walls.

The road being bumpy, loose and dirty, you may find the ride strenuous. Following the Friendship Highway, you will gradually climb to the foot of Geding where we fix the camp for overnight.

A fairly easy after few hrs ride brings you to the top from where you will have a clear view of the main Himalayan range. A brief stoppage at the top of the pass follows a thrilling downhill ride to the small town of Lhatse. After lunch at riverside the biking trail gains gradual climb to the foot of Gyantso La.

Day 18:

Cycle to Xegar

After breakfast few hrs riding before reaching the summit we suddenly come to an opening where we can once again see the great mountains but it will be very windy at this point (we advise for you to have wind proof attire ready as our support vehicle will be at a distance just in case) until we cross the pass and descent down to Xegar.

Cycle to Rongbuk & Everest Base Camp

We reach the Rongbuck Base Camp, starting off beside the Rong chu river with views of Everest ahead. The going is bumpy and with the altitude can be hard work, particularly on the last, uphill section, so we take it very slowly. We take lunch at Rongbuck and then continue to Everest Base Camp, another 7km. We have to cover those last kilometers on horseback as the rules changed in 2004 and no vehicles or bikes are allowed to Base Camp.

Day 20:

Rest day at the monastery and enjoy the Tibetan Buddhism. Or just relax. Or do some biking around Rongbuk

Day 21:

Cycle to Lo Tingri

We ride towards Old Tingri. This is a delightful ride as the road is not in good enough condition for motor traffic so bikers have it to themselves and can enjoy the scenery. There are remote villages and meadows with yaks and sheep. We now follow the river gently downhill to Tingri, a beautiful town with fine views of Everest and Cho Oyo.

Drive to Kathmandu

From Kerong, we have to pass through customs and into Nepal. After finishing Border
formalities/leaving Tibet, drive to cross Friendship Bridge by foot, entry formalities to Nepal, and drive back to Kathmandu.

Free day for shopping in Kathmandu

Day 26:

Transfer to airport for fly back to home
